I think the same could be said for damage boost, because if you don't at least level your self a few times, you're not getting the value of a the multiplicative damage boost from the gems page. I know this upgrade is scattered through out the other upgrades, but I think paying for a couple of percentage points makes sense, as does the Crit Hit Damage buff, since each upgrade location is multiplicative of all of the other locations.
